Alana Doran

Exercise Physiologist

MSc, BSc.

Alana graduated from University Of Ulster Jordanstown with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Sport and Exercise Science in 2021. Following this, Alana recently completed her Masters in Exercise Physiology and Therapy at the National University of Ireland, Galway. During her Masters, Alana completed research in the area of exercise rehabilitation and its effect on reducing cancer related side effects in breast cancer patients.

Alana has a special interest in exercise oncology and hopes to pursue a PhD in this area in the future. On completion of her Masters, Alana began working full time in Medfit as an exercise physiologist.

Dolores McManus

Dip N.T, I.S.S.A, Pilates Instructor, Power plates instructor

Having completed a Personal Training qualification with the International Sports Science Association, Dolores began her Pilates training with Pilates Performance Ireland and progressed to qualify as a Stott Pilates instructor. On top of this, Dolores has over ten years of experience in the fitness industry, resulting in a wealth of instructing experience. Dolores prides herself in educating her trainees with the knowledge to continue on their own health journey.

Dolores also has a diploma in nutritional therapy and is trained in Powerplates from Powerplates Master trainer.

In her spare time, Dolores enjoys being active outdoors, from walking her dog to cycling the ring of Kerry.

Stephen Armstrong

Stephen has worked in a number of varied and highly respected clinical
settings. From the Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, Pure sports Medicine and
Arsenal Football club in London to name a few.
Stephen first completed a degree in Sports Rehabilitation and Injury
Prevention from the London Institute of Sport at Middlesex University.
Following this Stephen completed his second degree in Physiotherapy from
Trinity College Dublin and has since completed a MSc in Manual Therapy. He
was granted a Clinical specialist title from the Chartered Physiotherapists in
Manual Therapy society in 2021 and is a member of the Musculoskeletal
association of Physiotherapists in the UK, which is a hallmark of clinical
specialism and quality within the Physiotherapy community.

Stephen is a highly motivated, passionate, enthusiastic and positive
Physiotherapist who is focused on successful patient outcomes and results.
His main clinical interests are in all things Musculoskeletal, with a particular
interest in neck and back pain, persistent pain and lower limb rehabilitation.
From his experiences, Stephen enjoys educating his patients to allow them
to have a thorough understanding of their conditions, which allows them to
take control utilising rehab and hands on technique to all them to recover
with confidence.

Louise McDonagh

Louise is a Chartered Physiotherapist who has worked in St James’s Hospital since graduating. She has gain experience in areas such as MSK, sports rehab, orthopedics and rheumatology. Working in medical areas such as oncology ensures Louise has a good understanding of different patient backgrounds in order to deliver holistic individualised treatment.

Louise has also completed an MSc Research in the area of osteoporosis, physical performance and activity. She continues to use research skills to deliver up-to-date evidence based best practice. Louise has a special interest in persistent pain management and sports rehab.

Louise also holds a Bachelor of Commerce, which she complete prior to physiotherapy.

Barry is one of Ireland’s leading health and wellbeing entrepreneur with many business interests in the development of the health and wellbeing concepts.

Barry is the Director and Co-Founder of Medfit Proactive Healthcare, Ireland’s first and only Medical Exercise Company. Barry is internationally recognized in the business of health and fitness concepts, and is the owner and operator of Iconic Health Clubs, a leading Irish health and fitness company with over 8000 members.

Barry is President of Ireland Active, the National Association for Health and Fitness centers in Ireland. Barry has served on the board for over 6 years and as President for 3 of them. He is a member of the European round table for fitness club leaders, giving him access and insight to the best minds in the health and well being industry.

Ann joined Medfit in 2016. Besides having a diverse career in her native Dublin, Ann has worked in Australia and the UK in more recent years and has brought her extensive experience of management/customer services to our front office.

Ann is the first point of contact between Medfit clients, members and guests, both by phone or face to face and as a ‘people’s person’ she finds providing a good customer service comes naturally to her.

In her spare time Ann likes to spend time in her garden, is an avid reader and keeps fit by walking her two dogs Chloe and Suki.

Originally from Offaly, Claire has been part of the Medfit Team since opening in January 2011. Claire graduated from Athlone Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Business (Honours) in 2008. Claire gained experience in management and operations within a diverse range of industries both in Ireland, America and Australia.

Claire is responsible for accounts management and she continues to develop her interest in management through related courses in finance, people management and team leadership. Claire enjoys exercising and you will often see her on the Milon circuit.

Werd Al-Najim - Nutrition Consultant

Werd Al-Najim is a Registered Nutritionist specialised in obesity. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Human Nutrition from Kingston University in London and a PhD in obesity treatments from Imperial College London. She moved to Dublin to run a number of major obesity clinical trials.

She brings together the most recent scientifically proven nutrition recommendations to clinical practice and provides an integrated approach to suit each individual’s need rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Orlaith’s background is in Strength & Conditioning having completed her BSc. Hons in Sport Strength & Conditioning at LIT Thurles in 2017. Orlaith began working in Medfit in 2016 where she began an internship and has since gained experience working as an exercise specialist and as part of our admin team and the operations of Medfit.

Orlaith now works closely with the Medfit team and is responsible for client support, people management, general management and the operations within Medfit. Her goals are to ensure that Medfit provides a welcoming and nurturing environment for all our clients to get the best results possible. Orlaith takes pride in guiding and supporting clients through their journey.

Andy holds a PhD in human appetite control through the UCD School of Medicine and has published research on obesity as a disease from the perspective of appetite dysregulation, patient lived experience, and philosophy of medicine. Andy has 8 years of experience working in both a clinical and athletic setting. He is passionate about helping people with medical issues achieve health gain through lifestyle management. Outside of work Andy likes to spend time with his family and being outdoors playing golf or cycling.

With a diverse skillset Andy enjoys working with anyone who is seeking improvement. Whether you are joining Medfit to rehabilitate from an injury or illness, or if you are simply looking to lose some weight and build your confidence Andy will help your achieve your goals through an individualised approach.

Tom Curran - Chartered Physiotherapist

Tom is a Chartered Physiotherapist, taking the scenic route to Physiotherapy, having first qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG. He qualified in Physiotherapy with first class honours from the University of Hertfordshire, and trained initially within the NHS gaining vast experience working in some of the largest teaching hospitals in London. He managed the Occupational Health & Rehabilitation Scheme in Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital and the London Ambulance Service, helping staff return to work from injury or illness.

He has also worked extensively in private practices in London, specialising in sports injuries, and has also worked as a healthcare consultant to the McLaren Formula 1 team, designing conditioning and rehabilitation plans for their racing drivers, along with monitoring systems for driver wellbeing.

Within Medfit,Tom currently manages the Occupational Rehabilitation Programme, helping people return to work from injury or illness, which is a nationwide scheme. This is a highly successful programme run in collaboration with Ireland's leading Insurers.

Tom also leads our MedTech development and has designed a truly novel claims management software solution for Insurers, which launched this year.

In his spare time, Tom competes in Ultra-marathons, having completed the Marathon de Sables, the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc and over 70 other marathons - one day aiming to join the 100 Marathon Club.

Kate Sheridan - Chartered Physiotherapist

Kate is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated in 2012 with a MSc with merit qualification in Physiotherapy from Robert Gordon University. Prior to this Kate graduated from Dublin City University with a first class honors BSc in Athletic Therapy and Training specialising in sport specific rehabilitation.

Kate also attended Curtin University, Perth where she obtained a Certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. She has completed CSCS training with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as being qualified in dry needling.

Kate has a special interest in chronic back and neck pain treatment in Medift. Kate’s goal as a practitioner is to assist clients to optimise their physical potential, reduce pain and improve confidence in movement.

She is currently undertaking a Masters in Clinical Pain Management in the University of Edinburgh to further her speciality.

Outside of clinic Kate has worked with multiple GAA clubs in the local area and in 2017 was Physiotherapist to All Ireland winning hurling Club Cuala.

Xavier Boeynaems - Chartered Physiotherapist

Xavier is a senior physiotherapist who graduated in Brussels in 2000. He holds a Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy, which he obtained in UCD in 2013 and is a Personal Trainer Level 3 N.A.S.M. He has also trained in Global Postural Reeducation, a method originated in France which is based on the Muscular Chains concepts.

Over the past 15 years, he has developed a unique approach combining the skills of a strong clinician and a sought-after personal trainer.

Xavier is specialised in advanced rehabilitation programmes for musculoskeletal and sport injuries with a particular interest in the treatments of shoulders, knees, hips and low back pathologies. His unique integrated methods and attention to details reflect his passion for evidence-based and patient-centered approach aiming to deliver the highest quality treatments.

Xavier’s vast biomechanical and movement performance knowledge have allowed him to successfully treat and train ill and injured patients, from the general population to sports amateurs and professional athletes alike. Xavier is the oldest team member in Medfit and works closely with our clinicians and trainers to ensure that all clients receive the highest quality services.

Outside of work, Xavier is a keen motorcyclist who enjoys riding the beautiful Irish scenic routes, he is a music amateur and used to play in bands in his prime. He is also a regular exerciser and enjoys using Medfit’s gym himself.

Professor Carel le Roux - Medical Director

Professor Carel le Roux

Medical Director & Head of Weight Management Clinic, MBChB, FRPC, PhD

Professor Carel le Roux graduated from medical school at University of Pretoria, South Africa and was awarded his PhD in 2005 from Imperial College London.

He is a member of a number of learned societies such as the Association for the Study of Obesity and the Nutrition Society.

He has been published extensively and currently holds a number of editorial roles for journals in his field including, Clinical Obesity and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.

Professor le Roux is an expert in metabolic medicine and is currently a Professor of Experimental Pathology, University College Dublin.

He is recognised as a world leader in metabolism and obesity. Professor le Roux’s clinical focus is in the management of Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular risk and other metabolic disorders.

Mr. John C. Murphy

John C is a Specialist Member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, & graduated with an honours degree in Physiotherapy from UCD in 1996.

He subsequently completed a research MSc in Physiotherapy in UCD, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies. He has a strong research background, with over 20 publications, ranging from sports injuries, injury prevention intervention design and implementation, sarcopenia, age well programs, and weight management.

John C is a co-founder and Clinical Director of Medfit as well as a Senior Partner in Carysfort Physiotherapy Clinic. He has over 35,000 hours of clinical experience, with a significant clinical interest in occupational rehabilitation and optimising recovery allowing a return to optimal function. He has vast experience in upper & lower limb post-surgical management in addition to delivering high value services required to minimise spinal pain for those who are non-surgical, and managing rehabilitation interventions for those who are post-surgery.

As Clinical Director of Medfit he oversees the work of all our clinicians and is responsible for the delivery of an integrated approach to client’s health across our multi-disciplinary team.
